Melinda Gates gives a fantastic TED talk on putting birth control back on the agenda.
Since this is so related to my own research, I wish I could see a hyper-linked reference list to accompany her talk, but no such luck.
Interestingly, she mentions outright that women choose concealable contraceptives to hide their decisions to have less children (or to wait between them) from their husbands. It does seem to be the accepted norm that women want less children than their husbands, but I'm still thinking about Terefe and Larson paper which finds evidence to the contrary. We might be telling ourselves a convincing story here without solid evidence to support it. Or in other words, more research is needed.
Hat tips: BGM, BLK
