At moments, the differences in the cultures of the protesters and the police in L.A. were drawn so sharply as to be comedic. At one point, a young man told a riot police officer: “If you give me a hug, I will leave right now.”
They officer responded: “Are you serious?”
“Yes,” the protester said.
The exchange continued, but the officer walked away without giving a hug.
